When you contact me I will ask some general questions such as the reason for your call, what issues you may be struggling with and/or what you are currently experiencing.
When you decide to book an exploratory first appointment I will send you intake forms to be filled out.
Each session is 50 minutes long.
At your first appointment we will discuss more fully why you've come and what your concerns are. I will ask some relevant questions about your life so I can get a sense of what your world is like for you. For couples it is the same process but we will take turns sharing, each person will have equal opportunity to speak. My job is to make you feel as comfortable as possible and ultimately to feel safe.
During this time together we will talk about goals you have so we have a framework for working together and I know that we are working on what's most important to you. Generally we will meet weekly but certainly we can make other arrangements to suit your schedule and finances.
Unlike many therapists I don't mind an email or phone call or text between sessions if life gets hard, I view our working together as sharing a journey. However I would encourage you to remember that these are not secure transmissions and while you may update me, I will offer encouragement which will not be part of the therapy.
I often give some homework to do between sessions after we have discussed this and you've agreed to take part. Homework may be extremely beneficial to the process of attaining the goals you have set.
The first step is often the hardest but every journey must start with a first step!
